My generation and the one before me thrives off of a dose of nostalgia, and who better than Disney to create memorable characters that stick with us from childhood through adulthood. It can be argued that Disney movies only appeal to such an audience because of its nostalgia factor; because we watched it as kids, we automatically think it to be superior as we associate it with the feeling of being young. When taking a closer look at these movies, however, one can find that these fairytales have merit beyond their nostalgia. This is true for the film Hercules. Hercules was released during one of the many periods where Hollywood was releasing a plethora of ancient world films. Thus it makes sense for Disney to follow the popular trend and release their own take on ancient Greece. Though Hercules follows a similar structure as its Hollywood counterparts by having a hero, a villain, and an "ideal" woman, I argue that Hercules is the best movie of the ancient world genre because of its depiction of these three essential elements through the use of plot and cinematography through animation, colors, and lighting.
